Welcome to The Herman Leive House, a prime example of 19th Century Greek
Revival charm just over a block west of the Ohio River in Aurora, Indiana. The 150
year old home has a history rich in local industry. In its early years the poplar
framed dwelling was the home of Samuel Langtree, the master brewer for the
Crescent Brewery, a local interest owned by the Gaffs of Hillforest. Around the
turn of the 19th Century, and for the next 85 years, three generations of the
Herman Leive family owned the property. Mr. Leive was one of the three original
founders of the Cochran Chair Company to the west of Aurora. Today some
twenty-five Cochran chairs and sofas help furnish the inn.

The Herman Leive House offers three large, comfortable bedrooms, each with its
own bathroom. Rooms are furnished with gracious antiques and quaint collectibles
which help make the home an appealing destination or a welcome resting place
along the way. Guests are invited to enjoy the 19th Century parlor or the piano
and T.V. room as places to visit, read, and relax. The front and side porches offer
pleasant views of Mary Stratton Park, the town of Aurora with its historic steeples
and spires, and the majestic Ohio River.
